Katy Sommerfeld, Volunteer

Katy Sommerfeld is a Certified Peer Support Specialist in California and recent Administrator for CAMHPRO (California Association of Mental Health Peer Run Organizations).

At CAMHPRO, Katy worked as an administrator for the Peer Empowerment Partnership which focused on implementation of peer certification legislation, preparing peers for certification exams, and facilitating groups.

Katy also worked with planning the CAMHPRO annual state conference, facilitating specialized focus groups around Psychiatric Advance Directives, and providing technical assistance to the CAMHPRO Building Peer Leadership program.

She began with the Peer History Project as a member of PARR (Peer Advocates for Rights and Recovery), a California peer coalition.

Her passion for the peer workforce and the consumer voice included testifying at a public hearing regarding recent mental health state legislation. She currently provides direct peer support in Sacramento.
